How to Study in Asia for Free

Have you ever wanted to study abroad, but you never thought your dream could come true? Well with the help of institutions like the Freeman Foundation, students in the US are offered the opportunity to go study in a foreign country.

Living abroad for a few years will change your perspective on the world and enrich your experience, so if you’ve been thinking about it for a while, you should start taking steps into that direction. How?

Take a look at the Freeman Foundation’s offering. The institution hopes to help students develop a greater appreciation for the Asian culture, so with this in mind it is offering awards for studying in Asia.

The Foundation will award summer, quarter and academic awards worth $3,000, $5,000 and $7,000 to US students willing to relocate in Asia and study with a traditional or online degree.

What is the criteria for getting in the program? For starters, you need to be a US citizen or a permanent resident at the time of the application.

Secondly, only applicants who are currently receiving need-based financial aid will be considered. Also they need to demonstrate a palpable need for financial assistance while abroad.

Undergraduate students with a minimum GPA 2.8 pursuing their first traditional or online bachelor degree (or associate degree) are invited to apply.

Before you apply to the Freeman Foundation, note that you must have applied or have been accepted to a study abroad program in Cambodia, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Laos, Macao, Malaysia, Mongolia, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, or Vietnam. Also, students need to demonstrate they have little or no previous experience in the country they intend to study.

Applicants need also to agree to submit an online Freeman-ASIA Student Impact Survey within one month of their return in the US. Naturally, the students must not be a previous Freeman-ASIA award winner.

When can you apply to study abroad in Asia? The Freeman-ASIA award deadline is set for October 18 this year. As you can see you have plenty of time to prepare and gather all the necessary documents.

The application process might seem tedious at first, but if you truly devote to the cause you’ll get though it in no time. Remember that you need to put a lot of effort into an application. You probably won’t be able to finish it in one day, but that shouldn’t discourage you.

The benefits of getting this award are pretty grand. You’ll be able to travel to an Asian country, live there for a few months, absorb the culture and learn so many interesting new things.

It’s a rich life experience you shouldn’t pass over lightly. And with a scholarship to support you, you won’t have to worry about much except perhaps to enjoy your stay and keep your grades up.
