Airports are usually major employers in the city they serve and are usually staffed by a wide range of individuals with a different skills sets. And if you have made up your mind that you want to find a job at your local airport, the good news is that it’s possible to find a role there, even if you don’t have a college degree.

Obviously some jobs like traffic controller, commercial pilot or airport management take years of training and require a degree, but support roles, such as ticketing agents, baggage handlers or retail workers have looser requirements when it comes to the level of education.

Airports are highly desirable employers, so the competition to getting the job you want might be fierce. For more advanced position like airport manager, you will be required to have a diploma in business administration, aviation management or related field. It’s the case of the ACI-NA Airport Commissioner’s Scholarships. In order to apply, students must have a minimum GPA of 3.0. If that’s the case for you, next you’ll be required to complete the scholarship form, attach an official school transcript, as well as two letters of recommendation and a current resume.

Last but not least, you’ll have to write a personal statement (between 300 and 500 words) with an emphasis on the candidate’s interest in airport management and operations.
