Learn to be an optimist by applying for this $2,500 scholarship offered by Optimist International

Students have to remember to stay optimistic if they are to succeed in life

Optimism is one of the qualities a student should look to develop in himself/herself in order to survive the hardships of college life

As a student you might find yourself worried about your future. Which is understandable, given that every day we hear news about rising college costs, challenges in the job market and shifting economic conditions. And if you make the mistake of devoting all your time to news reports, you’ll soon develop a sense of helplessness that might lead you to believe that no matter what you do you won’t be able to face the challenges ahead.

But the question is: can students enrolled with offline or online college classes still be optimistic? They can be. You see, the one thing you truly have direct control over is your outlook. So, as a student you need to learn to be optimistic and believe in your capabilities, regardless of the bleak circumstances around you.

Understanding that you have a choice about how to explain the events in your life is the first big step towards becoming an optimist. When bad things happen, it’s better for your mental health to take the positive approach which minimizes their importance by explaining them in terms that are temporary and specific.

Here’s a practical example, one that, as a student of traditional or distance learning, you probably relate to. College is expensive, so if you’re like most students, you probably tried to apply for scholarships at some point. Scholarships represent free money you can use to pay for your on-campus or distance learning tuition, but it’s not always easy to win one.

There are so many scholarships available out there and each has its own set of requirements. So if you’re just starting out, applying to scholarships might seem quite daunting. Which ones should you apply to? Is my essay good enough? Who should I ask to write my letters of recommendations? These are normal questions, which every student has when he/she is just starting to apply to scholarships.

At first, your efforts might not render any viable result. If that’s the case, you don’t have to get discouraged. Nurture your optimist instincts and keep applying. It doesn’t mean you’re not the kind of student, scholarship providers are looking for, it’s just that you need to find the right funding programs. And that takes time. You know what they say…Rome wasn’t built in a day.

In an attempt to help you develop your optimism, we’re going bring to your attention the scholarship for college offered by the Optimist International Institute. The contest is open to students under the age of 18 who are looking to enroll in offline or online college classes in the foreseeable future.

In order to apply, candidates have to come up with an original essay of 700 to 800 words on the following topic: “Can society function without respect?”.

The deadline to submit the essay is February 28, 2018, so there is time for you to come up with a few interesting ideas to embed in your work.

The winner will receive a scholarship worth $2,500 to be used to pay for college expenses.
