The Nigeria Development Fund award was initiated with the intention to reward outstanding Nigerian students whose financial capabilities are limited. Many Nigerian students communicated their concern regarding the real cost in Naira of a course at Coventry University course which has gone up significantly in the last year. The University answered to their request through the Nigeria Development Fund award, which is an extra financial support, considering that students should not be penalized because exchange rates have fallen.

The award is not a selective grade-based scholarship and any Nigerian student who enrolls on a qualifying course that starts in January 2018 or May 2018. The worth of the award is £2,000 per year for every year students study at Coventry. The scholarship is applicable towards the tuition fees.
