Up to £10,100 for a Ph.D. Female Applicant at the University of Edinburgh

The School of Literatures, Languages and Cultures at the University of Edinburgh welcomes applications for a Ph.D. scholarship waiting to be awarded in the 2018/2019 academic year. For students who have not yet heard about the School of Literature at the University of Edinburgh. The school is home to both traditional subjects such as English Literature, Celtic and Scottish Studies and European Language Studies. The school offers an equal attention to other emerging fields such as Asian Studies and Islamic Studies.

Overseas students are welcomed to expand their knowledge and dive into other cultures with the curiosity of a child and the maturity of an adult. Outstanding students are also invited to apply for the Ph.D. scholarship which goes under the name of Muriel Smith Scholarship. The award covers the tuition fees for a maximum one year at the Eu/Home rate for the selected master program. The worth of the award is up to £10,100. Successful overseas applicants will be considered liable for the difference between the Home/ EU and Overseas fee rates.

In order to apply, students must have submitted their application for a Master’s program within The School of Literatures, Languages and Cultures before April 11th 2018. The award will offer support to one Ph.D female master student who has been living in Scotland for 4 years prior to staring the MSc program.

Additionally, applicants to the following degree programs are eligible:

  • Masters by Research (MScR) French Studies or Hispanic (Peninsular Spanish) Studies
  • MSc Translation Studies, specialising in French or Spanish

The Muriel Smith Scholarship is to be awarded in one year of study only and part-time students will have the Home/ EU tuition fees paid in each of the two years of study. While the closing date for the master’s program is April 11th 2018, the scholarship admission process is available until May 2nd 2018. However, before submitting the scholarship application, students must check the eligibility criteria based on which the selection is made.

The scholarship application form can be found here https://www.ed.ac.uk/literatures-languages-cultures/graduate-school/fees-and-funding/funding/masters-students/muriel-smith-scholarship at the bottom of the webpage. Students are offered two possibilities of sending the form.
