Student in graduate government finance programs can win a $9,000 scholarship

Are you a grad student in the search of funding?

Graduate students can fund their master degrees just as well as bachelor students can

Are you on the verge of graduating with your traditional or distance learning degree and you’re contemplating what’s next for you in life? You could consider joining the work force or you could continue your journey in academia with a masters degree online or offline. But how can you make sure a masters degree online or on-campus is the right choice for you?

Don’t rush to make a decision. Take a break from student life upon your graduation. Doing a course, you don’t enjoy or need could be an expensive and inconvenient mistake, especially if you end up dropping out.

Postgraduate studies shouldn’t be a way to avoid going out into the real world and starting your life as an adult, so make sure you are absolutely certain you want to continue your studies.

You also need to be aware on campus or distance learning master programs are far more challenging than bachelor programs. You’ll be expected to do a lot of reading and researching, so if you don’t like doing that you should definitely re-think your decision. The basic level of competency when it comes to postgraduate study is high, so you’ll have to work harder and longer in order to reach that.

Finances are also to be factored into your decision of pursuing a master degree. Can you afford going back to school once you’ve graduated from your bachelor degree program. If not, are there any scholarships you could apply to get funding? Are you in good standing as a student?

Fortunately, you don’t have to be a straight A student to be awarded a sponsorship, as a graduate student. Opportunities for funding abound and all you need to do is devote some of your free time to conduct a little bit of research. Scholarships are the most common financial aid available for master students, but fellowship programs are also offered here and there.

Now let us give you an example of a scholarship program for master degree students. Enter the Frank. L Greathouse Government Accounting Scholarship which is available for graduate students who are preparing for a career in state or local government finance.

In order to apply for this program, students must present a recommendation from one of their academic advisors and have previous work experience in the field.

To apply a candidate must put together a portfolio of documents which should include:

  • Application form
  • A statement of purpose that details career plans and proposed plan of graduate study
  • Undergraduate and graduate school transcripts
  • Resume/CV
  • Letter of recommendation

All these documents are to be submitted for a chance to win $9,000 in funding. Two such awards are awarded to graduate students on an annual basis.

Even though the deadline for this year has passed, students should bookmark the scholarship page and return to it next year. In the meanwhile, you can gather some of the documents listed above. They will come in handy when applying to other scholarship programs, as well.
