RUFORUM Scholarships for Kenyan and Ugandan Students

The Regional Universities Forum for Capacity Building, which is a network of 66 universities whose academic activities are held across 26 African countries, has partnered with the MasterCard Foundation. The partnership is aimed to transform the African Agricultural Universities so that they can contribute to Africa’s growth and development. Students will also benefit from this partnership helping them to better respond to developmental challenges through technology, application of science, innovation for rural agricultural transformation.

This partnership will connect undergraduate and graduate students with 11o undergraduate and 110 master’s scholarships provided over a period of 8 years. The scholarships target only those academically deserving but are economically disadvantaged coming from marginalized communities or from conflict and post conflict areas of Africa. Egerton University in Kenya and Gulu University in Uganda are the universities where the scholarships will be tenable.

A. These are the academic programs for 2018/2018 at Gulu University which will be sponsored by the scholarships:

Bachelor of Science in Agri-Entrepreneurship and Communication Management

Bachelor of Science in Food and Agribusiness

Master of Science in Food Security and Community Nutrition

Master of Science in Agri-Enterprises Development

B. These are the academic programs for 2018/2018 at Egerton University which will be sponsored by the scholarships:

Bachelor of Science in Agriculture

Bachelor of Science in Animal Science

Master of Science in Community Studies and Extension

Master of Science in Agri-Enterprise Development

The distribution of the scholarships

Students enrolled under the RUFORUM scholarship program will receive comprehensive scholarships, leadership development, life skills support, entrepreneurship training and mentorship and exposure to community engagement. For the 2018/ 2019 academic year will be available 20 undergraduate scholarships and 10 master’s scholarships of which 70% will be destined for Ugandan and Kenyan students. 60% of the undergraduate scholarships and 50% of the master’s scholarships will be awarded to female applicants.

The application process

Entrants will obtain the application form for the admission at their university of choice – Gulu (http://www.gu.ac.ug/) or Egerton (http://www.egerton.ac.ke/) – and scholarships. The application form can be downloaded from their websites. Before application, students are advised to read carefully the application guidelines and provide all the required information and documents prior to submitting the application. Females are particularly encouraged to apply as mentioned above. Entrants are advised to consult the admission requirements for the scholarship http://gu.ac.ug/scholarships/ as well as the general admission requirements established by each university.

The closing date for the 2018/ 2019 academic year for the MasterCard Foundation@ RUFORUM is March 16th 2018 at 17:00 Hours (GMT+3).
