Get a $10,000 Scholarship to Study Journalism

Do you have a passion for writing? Then you might want to pursue in an offline or online degree in journalism.

Journalism at the undergrad level prepares students for careers as journalists and provides a general education about journalism in news media, press, radio and online. Luckily, there are many traditional or online degree programs specializing in journalism, so perspective students have plenty of options to choose from.

But before you go ahead and enroll with an offline or online degree, you should consider one more aspect: the financial issue. Ask yourself whether you have the necessary funds to support your higher education goals. If you don’t, you better start looking for a scholarship.

The good news is that there are plenty of scholarships aimed at journalism students. Here’s a few worthy examples.

The Floyd Mayweather Jr. Foundation scholarship awards financial aid to undergrad or graduate women who wish to pursue one of the following fields: Public Relations, Communication, Media Studies, Marketing or Journalism.

Applicants are required to demonstrate financial need by providing the proper documentation. They also need to be US residents.

The $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to an undergraduate sophomore, junior, senior or first year of graduate school who have been able to maintain a minimum GPA of 2.75. An unofficial transcript, letters of recommendation and a copy of their resume are also required to apply for the funding.

Another way to pay for your offline or online degree in Journalism is to apply for the Ed Bradley scholarship offered by the Radio Television Digital News Association.

The scholarship is open for undergrad students interested in pursuing careers in radio, television or digital journalism upon graduation. The winning applicant will be the recipient of a $10,000 grant.

In order to apply for the bursary, students need to send in URL links to 3-5 samples of their work, as well as a cover letter in which they discuss current and past journalism experience, describe how they plan to use the money and explain why they chose the field of journalism.

Last but not least, applicants have to remember to include their Resume and a letter of recommendation from a professor, adviser or supervisor.

The winners will also be invited to attend the Excellence in Journalism conference. Like with the previous scholarship, applicants need to be sophomores, juniors or seniors at the time the scholarship is awarded.

To apply send in 3-5 samples of your work, cover letter, resume and a letter of recommendation.
