Victoria Graduate Award and other scholarships for art-related masters degrees at Victoria University of Wellington

Victoria University of Wellington in New Zealand provides numerous scholarships for international students pursuing postgraduate degrees. It is awarded to new and current students, and the value is up to $5,000 per year.

The available scholarships depend on the level of study, subject area, and the awards focus. It is important that you know what is the subject area you would like to pursue in order to find the scholarship that will best suit you.

The following are some of the Arts related Masters courses you can consider to apply for:

  • Master of Fine Arts (Creative Practice)
  • Master of Creative Writing
  • Master of Music
  • Master of Musical Arts
  • Master of Music Therapy

You may also consider pursuing your doctoral degree by applying for the Doctor of Musical Arts.

The application process is generally similar to both. The doctoral degree, however, involves additional requirements. Acceptance into the program is needed before you are considered for the scholarship. There is no fee to be accepted into the program. The application should be submitted online along with the requirements of the program. General deadline depends on the semester you would be applying for. Start date of February (trimester 1) requires you to have the application submitted by December, July (Trimester 2) by May 1 and November (Trimester 3) by September 1.

One of the available scholarships at Victoria University of Wellington is the Victoria Graduate Award. The value of the award covers domestic tuition fees up to $5,000 per year. It is purely based on academic excellence and it seeks to inspire undergraduates to pursue their education by taking postgraduate degrees or research programs in the university.

Provided on annual basis, the deadline is on November 1, 2017, and November 1, 2018, respectively.

The selection process requires the applicants to have completed coursework with at least 90 points at 500 level and a thesis/research component of less than 90 points. They must a GPA 8.0 at 300-level or above.

Postgraduate thesis allowance is also provided for Master’s students valued up to $150 towards printing and binding costs, paid directly as a lump sum and $700 (21 hours at $33/hour) towards a proofreader, paid directly to them on receipt of a timesheet or invoice.

Special scholarships are also available to students with disabilities, ethnicitiy and gender. You will not feel at a loss and feel left out should you choose to study in this university.
